Works perfectly with original Xbox
Like many others I bought this to use with a modded original Xbox. You'll need an 80 pin cable to go along with it but then you should be able to use any drive - I went with a 1TB Kingston A400 SSD and it works great.Simple plug and play affair. The power cable is a bit long for this and you don't need the passthrough but it's nice to have. If I'm really that bothered I can just wire up or find a Molex to Berg cable if I really want to.

Works reliably and seemlessly
Purchased for use with an Asus CUSL2 old pentium 3 motherboard that only has PATA IDE and this handy devices allowed a newer SATA DVD drive (or SSD) to work. The motherboard and Win98 are oblivious to the device, it just shows as a PATA IDE drive. Startec seem to be only reliable brand when it comes to these little adaptors, of which many cheaper, far less reliable versions are sold. This one should just work.Treat it carefully as it'll not take lots of plugging/unplugging.

Giving the OG Xbox a new life.
Worth it for the price. I used this product upgrade my original Xbox hard drive along with an 80 core cable.Straightforward to install (several installation guides online) and working fine after weeks of use.

StarTech IDE to SATA Hard Drive Adapter works in 2007 Fostex MR16
I am stunned to say it worked first time. I took the WD400BB 40GB 7200rpm IDE hard disk drive out of my 2007 Fostex MR16HD/CD Portastudio, because traditional disk drives are so so so noisy, I fitted a GIGABYTE 120GB SSD SATA III solid state drive which is silent and three times the size of my old drive, powered the portastudio on whilst holding the stop button so that it did not try to load anything from the new SSD and it went straight into "do you want to format the disk", I selected yes, it formatted very quickly and loaded a blank Song 01, I recorded some Roland TR8 and played it back from tracks 1 & 2. Plugged the Fostex USB into my Mac, selected USB mode on the Fostex, and my Mac recognised it as a 120GB drive ready to import songs. Unbelievable, it just worked. The adaptor feels a little fragile so I gently pressed the cables onto the adaptor little by little, using a cloth to not touch any circuitry.

Outstanding
These adapters are absolutely outstanding and have allowed me to bring an old PC with a failed IDE drive back to life with a duel boot XP and Win98 SSD install. The pins are strong, I don’t think they will bend like the cheaper adapters. They also work for attaching a modern Blu-Ray drive to an older IDE cable system.Just remember if using more than one to move the pre-installed jumper to either slave or cable to prevent conflicts with the master drive.Cons:Remember to place electrical tape on the back of the pins, as they will short out on the PC case if they make contact.I would have liked if the IDE pins had a plastic guide around them, just to be 99% sure that they won’t get bent, but as mentioned they are very strong and well made.Final Tip:If you are using these to install Win98, stick to an SSD under 137GB and create a 7.5GB partition for the OS or you will get stuck at ScanDisk during setup. Then a secondary partition to make use of the rest of the disk space.

Good quality and performance
I purchased to modify an OG Xbox to install a 3.5 inch 2TB SATA hard drive. I found the device compact with a good length of cable for the connections. It is now install in the modified Xbox and the drive works perfectly with no issues and good performance. There are cheap adapters out there but I've used StarTech's a few times and I've always been pleased with the performance and reliability it gives.

The best IDE to Sata for OG Xbox
Great product and works every time/install. However, as the device is using headers rather than an IDE port, installing and reinstalling (during cloning procedure for chimp softmod) the headers can bend out of place and in one instance I had to replace the headers with a new set so please take care when installing and reinstalling. This is the best device for this task and is worth every penny, but please Startech change those cheap headers for and actual IDE port
