A purchase inspired from my late night binge watching of a British TV miniseries...
A purchase inspired from my late night binge watching of a British TV miniseries. As an American, I know very little about drinking tea. Who better to take direction than from that of our British cousins in the U.K.? So, I was watching the "Slow Horses" miniseries on Amazon Prime, a show about a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents and their obnoxious boss, played by Gary Oldman. When the show came to a scene where a character offered to brew her guest a spot of late night TEA, she asked him to pick his choice of "Builder's" or "Assam" to which he enthusiastically replied "Assam!" She looked inside her canister and said "Sorry, (I'm) all out of Assam, you'll have to settle for Builder's. Suddenly, I, too, was craving a hot spot of tea! But what of this "Builder's" and the preferred "Assam" of which they speak? I knew only of Lipton & Nestea. Immediately, I'm on my Amazon Prime account searching for "Assam Tea". My search led me directly to this magnificent find, which I ordered & received in mere days. All I can say is "WOW!" This tea is a game-changer for me and what I knew about tea! First off, the bag was HUGE, much larger than anticipated! (using my FoodSaver vacuum sealer, I subdivided this enormous bag into roughly ten smaller packets of various sizes, I stored some and shared the others with my family members. My sister was most enthusiastic of all, she loves this tea every bit as much as I do. She commented "great tasting, and this tea is VERY STRONG!" I said, "Well that just means you USE LESS!" as the strength is a direct result of your measure. She said she had been re-brewing the tea leaves for a second cup, I said "Well don't do THAT, just use a smaller measure!" Overall, I think you'll love the flavor and sheer value of this Assam Tea, a real game changer for this American tea drinker!

Can't really ask for more.
I'm not a picky or finicky tea drinker. Straight Black Tea is fine with me. But I dislike waste and expense, and decided to try this, with some reusable silicone tea bags, to see how it worked out. Two pounds is a hell of a lot of tea.As it happens, it worked out very nicely. Tea bags are admittedly more convenient, but at the same time, a lot more waste is involved with them between the bags and the packaging. With this tea, you decide how much goes into a bag and go on from there.(Shocker: I use a "teaspoon" per bag, which after weighing what came in a tea bag without the bag and then measuring that amount in this tea came to exactly that amount.)My "cup" is also rather large. It's a 34 oz metal stein. ONE teabag is all it takes with this loose-leaf tea. With pre-made teabags, it usually took two for the same color and flavor. So, it's hugely economical considering it's at least eight times the amount of tea as a box of 100 tea bags, and it will last twice as long. I do not find it to be "better" tasting, but it's not worse. To my palate, it's exactly the same as Black Tea from pre-made tea bags.Since it's Black Tea to begin with, that shouldn't be a surprise. If you want "better" flavor, just think of the savings over the long term. The only down-side is the need to clean and refill the tea bags, but I have a lot of time on my hands and it's not that arduous using a teaspoon to measure the amount. Soak the silicone tea bags in a weak bleach and water solution every few uses and rinse between uses, and they clean right up without affecting the flavor at all.The ONLY thing I might complain about is the lack of a resealable bag it comes in, but I solved that by getting a tea container. Alternatively, a gallon sized re-sealable baggie will work, too. However, the container helps me get level teaspoons in filling, making that a better alternative to the baggie for me.YMMV.Either way, this is the go-to tea on my list to be getting when my tea supply runs out. It's as good as the best tea bags can offer, easy to measure, easy to use, and very economical. If that's your thing, get this and leave the bags behind.

Makes a strong half gallon pitcher of iced tea
This is my first foray into loose tea. I have used exclusively Lipton Tea bags since adulthood and drink cold tea, ice waters it down, after my morning strong black coffee 7 days a week. My Wife and I decided to try skipping the bags and using loose tea and this was our choice for the Lipton Black Tea that is being replaced. I have made around 15 pitchers at this writing. I find it considerably stronger tasting than the 5 tea bags in a half gallon of water steeped for an hour or so that was my standard with the Lipton and am still working with the fine line between too weak and too strong, or at least stronger than it needs to be. It is hard to make coffee or tea "too" strong for me. I drink both straight and strong. I have adjusted to the flavor difference and once I have the strength down to a science I think I will be completely satisfied. We are happy to be doing away with the waste that came from using the bags and the potential microplastic exposure from the packaging, etc. How it compares to other Black Tea I can't say. Oh, this is a LOT of Tea. I don't know how long it will last making a half gallon jug a day-ish but I'm confident that it will be quite some time before I need to order more.

Wonderful flavor
Makes tea that I feel is better than high priced whole leaf alternatives. Easy to adjust to make tea exactly how you want it. You do need a channi.
