It was perfect for my Maleficent costume and our Halloween family photoshoot.

Ok, so I have read the reviews and was fairly worried. But this was only $36 when I ordered it, which is inexpensive compared to the ones listed for $60 plus. Yes it is light, yes it isn't super solid but, it's for a costume. So here is the deal... the little tab for the "try me" power wasn't there. It was dim. It only cost around $5 to get new batteries (it takes 3 AG13 (LR44) on Amazon and is available for prime. Also, there are 2 silver circles about half way down the staff, if you touch them at the same time, it comes on. You can also activate it by tapping it in the ground. When it lights up it goes through a cycle and changes colors slowly. It is really neat. Totally love it!

It's exactly the right shape and size for a Maleficent costume, it's a good height for an adult or teen, though if you are extremely tall (over 6') you will be wanting to add something to the bottom to get the light up where you want it. This is not a walking stick, it is a waving around kind of prop that is purposefully lightweight for carrying a long time without fatigue. It also has very obvious joins between the pieces that screw together. If the idea of obvious joins bothers you, you might want to get some stuff to mask the problem areas. They don't bother me for my purposes. I like the lights, though I would have been ecstatic to have a color selector. I am particularly fond of the blue, and the green is more movie-accurate. But cycling through the colors is nifty.

I made sure to order my staff WELL in advance to make sure I had EVERYTHING I needed for my costume knowing I had to work ON Halloween. When my staff arrived it didn’t work AT ALL and I went through the trouble of getting new batteries even to check that problem first, nothing! I did the return/replacement ASAP & my “replacement” staff won’t even be here until like 10pm ON Halloween night! So now I’m completely screwed on my costume because of lack of quality control in a multimillion dollar company that’s completely over charging for shoddy products. Thanks Party City for ruining my Halloween, my costume, and one of my favorite holidays that everyone else is already trying to overshadow; of ALL companies I figured YOU would be better. I really hope you try to fix this and make it right since it’s your fault in the first place.

there should not be this many people in the reviews having issues with batteries. i rated this a 3 because at the end of the day it did its job (after i found the batteries it needs) but the switch was turned on when i opened it so the ones they came with were dead. what’s the point of including batteries if you’re not gonna make sure it works upon arrival? put the batteries in a separate pack or something so this isn’t a reccurring issue, i mean seriously this is ridiculous lol

A great additional piece to my Maleficent costume. Light and kinds of slides on the ground. I added a small cabinet bumper under the bottom for grip. Mad that I forget it in the car for the Halooween party but I was hand free and could dance, Lol. It glows several different colors. Will be using next year! Buy it!!!
