My Go-To for Reliable Portable Internet

This TP-Link 4G LTE MiFi has been a solid bit of kit for me, going from a stand-in for home broadband to a faithful companion on cabin getaways. It's handled everything from demanding marketing and IT work with four devices connected to just streaming music for a couple of phones, and it's kept pace admirably.Speed and battery life are key here, and whilst it's 4G, it delivers a perfectly decent connection for my day-to-day tasks. Battery-wise, I'm looking at around seven hours, which is pretty good for a full day out, and the fact I can use it while it's charging is a definite bonus. Setting it up with a Smarty SIM was a doddle, and it holds its own for signal strength right alongside my mobile phone. There haven't been any faffy issues, and it's proved to be good value. While I'm eyeing up a future 5G upgrade for that extra bit of oomph, this 4G MiFi has been a reliable workhorse and a fuss-free way for me to stay connected, whether I'm working from home or chilling off-grid. It's a sound choice if you need portable internet without any unnecessary complications.

Useful travel companion

This 4G mifi device is ideal for travelling, especially as a couple or family with several devices, and you want to avoid horrendous roaming data rates. It's very pocketable and portable and of sturdy construction. It takes a full sized SIM card (adaptors are included). Just get a local SIM card for the country you're travelling to (or one with good rates there), make sure it's activated (if the mobile network activation requires making a phone call, you will need to do this with another phone first as this device can't make voice calls), connect to the WiFi access point with the details on the sticker and you're ready to go.The TPMiFi app is pretty good - which you can use when you're connected to the device. It's pretty modern design and easy enough to use (though some of the features might a bit hidden ). You can throttle individual devices which might be handy to ensure little Jonny doesn't use all of your data by watching hundreds of slightly different 4K baby shark remixes. You can change the WiFi signal strength to eek a bit more out of the battery. You can also view SMSs received too.The battery was the only part which was a little disappointing. It's removable (big plus as it makes it very repairable in theory), but in areas with less 4G signal (e.g. rural areas) it can drain quite quickly especially when using lots of data. However, it can operate whilst being charged - so you can pair it with a USB power bank (like an Anker PowerCore) to stay connected longer.Overall, thoroughly worth the modest investment if you use it even just for a couple of trips abroad.

Used with security cameras - but there is a problem.

I bought this item to provide a Wi-Fi signal to monitor a remote empty property with a couple of battery powered cameras. The area receives a 4G signal which works with the unit. I set up the TP-Link with a 6Gb SIM card and a permanently connected USB power supply. With the Wi-Fi range set "medium" I located the cameras within about 30 feet of the unit. The setup is working well after testing for a month although the 6Gb data allowance ran out after 15 days due to my frequent live viewing of the cameras.I recorded a speed of 2Mbs from the TP-Link which is lower than I expected but was enough to run the cameras. As yet, I haven't tried to improve the speed or test it further. I have not tested the TP-Link's battery life, so cannot comment on this.In summary, the TP-Link fulfils the purpose for which I purchased it and will no doubt be useful in other Wi-Fi lacking environments. Here is an update after several months use.........On three occasions now the WiFi has dropped out unexpectedly after working normally and continuously for about 3 weeks at a time. This means my security cameras are not accessible from my remote location. This is annoying and frustrating because to rectify the issue I need to manually switch the MiFi unit on /off to reconnect and get a WiFi signal back. It is a 265 mile round trip to do this! I followed advice on the TP-Link website and changed a setting from 3G/4G to 4G only, but this has not solved the issue. If anyone can advise me of another fix, that would be most welcome. Would another MiFi or 4G Router unit with remote access be a more suitable alternative? Please let me have your thoughts.

Tp-link m7000 mifi

Tp-link M700I wish people were clear and honest in their reviews. Prior to purchase I read Amazon’s and maybe 10 other peoples. If I’d read further down the list I’d have read one which highlighted the rubbish.Firstly, the instructions are poor to say the least. Inserting a SIM card is the most frustrating and awkward experience. The sim holder is so flimsy that tp-link provide a little piece of sticky tape to hold it in place, which I suppose is ok unless you intend to remove the card numerous times. The lights on the device indicating whether you have a WiFi connection or not don’t remain on so, if you’re unsure you have to keep pressing the button. Lastly, and most importantly, there are only a small number of network SIM cards that will work, Sky mobile doesn’t! Don’t even think of downloading tp-links config settings page unless you have a Masters in computer science………..It’s getting returned.
