Great value for a well-designed, attractive, reasonably solid cabinet. priced, spacious.

I was looking for a wooden under-desk cabinet with drawers. Solid wood options turned out to be crazy expensive ($300 at a minimum). This plastic-laminate-covered particleboard cabinet for around $95 was a great option. As other reviews have noted, the construction does take a couple of hours. I disagree with the comments about the instructions being confusing. I found the graphics-based guidance to be extremely clear. The parts are all labeled with stickers that match the drawings. All the hardware comes in labeled plastic bags (with extras of each type of screw, dowel, etc., in case you drop one and can't find it, as always happens). Once again, the instructions clearly label which type of hardware, and how many of each, to use in each step. I suspect the folks who had trouble with assembly were in a rush. I covered a table with a couple of towels to protect it and the cabinet parts, and laid all the pieces out in numerical order. That let me sit up during the process. If I'd done it on the floor, bending over for a hour or more would have been a backbreaker! Make sure you use a properly sized screwdriver. I used an electric drill with a screw bit, which speeded things up. The kit included a small, cheap screwdriver, that I think would have resulted in some stripped screwheads and a sore wrist. I was careful to screw things slowly and had absolutely no problems with the particleboard or fasteners. The finished product is very sturdy. Everything lined up perfectly.

Alright for what it is

Instructions are pretty garbage. Not all runners are labeled (the white ones have the part label stamped into them, the black ones don't.Didn't come with the appropriate number of "M" screws so I couldn't finish the last step of reinforcing the backing. The latch lock screws are bad quality. The particle board is garbage and luckily the portion that crumbled apart during assembly isn't visible and doesn't affect structural integrity. The file drawer sticks out more than the other drawers.Finish laminate is paper thin and crumbles around the screws. Cut my finger on it trying to wipe away crumbled bits under the screw.Pilot holes are hilariously shallow. Thankfully you won't run in to problems if the screws for the runners go in at an angle like the instructions claim because you need to put weight into them - the pilot holes are too shallow to get any bite. Not a bad filing cabinet / drawer system if you look past the flaws.

Takes a little effort, but worth the work.

I purchased the three drawer file cabinet in walnut. I wanted a file cabinet for my home office that didn't look like a black metal cabinet since we also use the room as a family room. This cabinet is a laminate wood and looks great...almost like an end table. It is a solid cabinet. It does take a little work to assemble, but the look is worth the effort. My husband and I put the file cabinet together last night. I could have managed on my own, but it was nice to have two people to make the process go a lot faster. My only negative comments: the cabinet does not roll very easily...especially on short carpet and the very last step to install the white support brackets on the back of the cabinet...there were no pre-drilled holes for the screws.

Cheap cheap cheap

This product looks decent, but is extremely low quality. The boards are very thin so the screws to put everything together are very short almost impossible to hold onto when putting it together. The drawers top two drawer slides are flimsy and do not easily slide in and out. The bottom drawer has a much better slide and works well. However with the screws being so short and the thin board construction I do fear it will not hold the weight if I fill it with files. I guess only time will tell

Perfect

I have a desk shell, meaning there are no drawers. This fits perfectly underneath. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for heavy filing or rough handling, but it works great for me. Assembly was a little challenging, but isn't everything these days? The bottom file drawer has it's own guidewheel (as shown in the picture), which doesn't allow the drawer to sag and assists in pulling the drawer out and pushing it back in. The bottom drawer also accommodates either legal size or letter size hanging file folders. The only inconvenience is that the top two drawers do not have dividers.

Much harder to assemble than I expected

I'd say that this is OK for what it is. That said, I'm unlikely to buy anything from Devaise again, given the challenges of assembly and that I figure I can get something better for not much more money in the future. As others have said, this is made of pressed wood with a foil covering that. It's basically like early, low-price Ikea stuff. However, where much of the assembly is similar to Ikea (with the turn-to-lock fasteners and wooden pegs), it also requires driving a fair number of screws. That's where I found things difficult. The instructions warn that the screws must go in straight or, in some cases, they can block things like sliders. While there are predrilled holes to help, I still had screws that weren't perfectly straight and where I had to worry until the final steps whether I would have an issue. (I didn't.) Also, in some cases I either got tearing of the foil or crumbling of the pressed wood. None of that was in a critical spot, but still, everything seemed a little too close to the margins for easy assembly. One additional issue: they ship using some some of incredibly crumbly styrofoam. Vacuuming helped, but I'm still finding bits of it. In fact, I'm pretty sure that after this house has been knocked down and another house has been built, they'll still occasionally find bits of that styrofoam.

Even Better

Over 2 years later, it's still doing the job. For the price, you can't beat it. It was easy to assemble; it's sturdy and great looking. I couldn't be happier.
