Outstanding book by an authority on ADHD. Not just for parents - has easy to access info for people with ADHD and their families. I have read many of Russell Barkley's books, and this is one of the most acccessible for understanding how to manage symptoms of ADHD.

Everything Dr. Russell Barkley says has helped our family and my ADHD child navigate how his brain works to make him a happier, healthier, more well-adjusted child. Dr. Barkley is the premier expert on this subject with years and years of study, and he even updates books and teachings when new scientific evidence comes out. He approaches ADHD with such care and concern and kindness and understanding. Every educator, every person who works with kids, and probably even every parent should read one of his books for a greater understanding of what ADHD really is and how it so terribly affects people. He's a genius and so very dedicated to his work and his patients and his readers, and what feels like all kids, everywhere. GET HIS BOOKS if you even slightly think your child has listening, attention, impulsivity, sense of time, memory, etc issues. It will open your eyes to the world as they experience it - and it is far worse for them than one can ever imagine. I am so glad I found Dr. Russell Barkley!!

This book goes into the science of adhd. It’s very in-depth. I love it, but if you’re looking for a light, quick read, this isn’t it. If you’re looking to understand all aspects of adhd and why it is what it is, this is a great read.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good book, it resonated with a lot of what we've experienced with our own child, but it is DENSE.As you can imagine, a parent of a child with ADHD might also have some ADHD issues of their own. It took me three months to muster the willpower to get through the introduction. By that time, I decided to also pick up the audiobook version of this tome. Having both of these formats available to read/review has helped make me better progress. With any luck I'll make it through and be able to apply the advice before another three months has passed.

I’ve read a lot of books and websites but this is the most clear and concise guide out there. Great info, lots of hope, positive and realistic. I underlined so many things. This has helped our family tremendously with how clear and concise the info is

This came highly recommended by our psychiatrist and it proved to be so helpful for me in working with my son who has ADHD. Having a summarized place of ALL the research that has been done on ADHD for the past 200+ years (yes, it's actually been that long!) was reassuring. I understand how and why medication works which was helpful in overcoming my fear of "medicating" my child. This book also has steps on how to improve your relationship with your child - literally anything you can wonder about with parenting an ADHD child - and it's all evidence based. Excellent resource.
