Great Party Fondues

My First Fondue Cookbook
I have tried the S'Mores fondue, and the Gouda and Cheddar fondue and both are delicious. I'm not 21 yet so I can't make any of the alcoholic recipes (Yet. Give me 4 moths) so that really limits my options. The S'Mores fondue is best with sliced bananas and Nilla Wafers, and the Gouda and Cheddar is best with Pink Lady apples. At least of the things my roommate and I tried in both. But my biggest issue with this book is it has really odd quantities of things. Most prominently, the half-tablespoon. Now, a teaspoon is 1/3rd of a tablespoon, and I don't want to figure out while I'm cooking how to get a half. Also I hate estimating. But this half-tablespoon really makes it hard to cut the recipes in half, considering I'm only making for 2, I don't need, say, 4 cups of Gouda and Cheddar. That's not enough to get me to regret buying it, of course, and I can't wait until I can make the alcoholic recipes, but it does notch it down by a star. Of course, if I could, it would get a 4.5Anyway, that's more than enough from me.EDIT: I recently went to Bed Bath & Beyond and found these [...]which include a 1/2 tablespoon AND a 1/8th teaspoon.

And you though Fondue was cheese or chocolate!
Having recently tried and loved my first fondue experience, I decided to recreate the meal at home and purchased a fondue kit! But admittedly when I think of fondue, the first thing that comes to mind is cheese accompanied with bread, and chocolate along with strawberries! I knew there must be more out there and as a family that loves to cook decided to go with this book to accompany the fondue!I made the right decision!! There are so many excellent , out the box type suggestions as well as the more ordinary! The recipes also suggest what you should serve as an accompaniment to each type of fondue and I am fully confident I can find something my kids will live (desert ideas aside) that will have them munching raw veggies with some delicious fondue accompaniment! For the Fall I cannot wait to try the sweet potato with chipotle (and it looks rather simple to make - this book has easy, concise steps); followed by the white chocolate with ginger!I am determined that my Fondue will not follow the path of my ice cream maker and juicer (ie life in the cupboard) and become a regular fixture at mealtimes! This book might just make this happen!Easy to follow, simple fun recipes that use readily found ingredients and had something for every season, taste or age!! Love it!

The best fondue book
I've been doing fondue since I was a kid and rediscovered it about 15 years ago. I bought several books and this was by far the best. First and foremost, anyone skilled in cooking gives you the basics to start with. Fondue is not as easy as people think. The section on Etiquette was quite enlightening because as family, we broke most of those rules. The second reason why this is the best fondue cookbook is because of the breadth of recipes. If people have dietary restrictions, abstinence from alcohol or other issues, you can find at least a dozen recipes in the book that will satisfy them. Third, regional tastes are included. This is my second copy too. Not sure what happened to my first one.

Good fondues difficult book
Several problems I had with the actual book....because of its small size and hard cover, I could not keep this book opened while I was trying to prepare the fondues. That was very frustrating. Even with a large can of tomato paste placed on it, I still struggled with it. I had keep moving the can so I could see the recipe. Once I moved the can, the pages would close together thus causing me to keep handling the book which then caused me to get my greasy fingerprints all over the pages. Yuck. The recipes make HUGE amounts! I have to cut the recipes in almost 1/3 the size for two people. Many of the cheese recipes are pricey. I'm okay with that, but some folks might want to know this before purchasing.Again, the book is small, so there are not a lot of recipes compared to most cook books. The quality of the book is great as is the layout and artwork.I purchased two, one for me and one for my mother. She has had it for several months and hasn't used it yet.......

Fabulous book.
I tried fondue cooking for the first time and I used this book to get all of my recipes. The items I made were the swiss cheese fondue, midnight chocolate and 4 dips for dipping cooked meat and vegetables into (ponsu sauce, bernaise, peanut butter and mustard). Everthing was absolutely delicious. It was such a success that I actually felt like I was at a fondue restaurant. I'm usually very critical of my own cooking yet I couldn't find a bad thing about any of the recipes I tried. I look forward to another fondue day with new recipes. Also very good information about various types of pots and recommendations on ingredients. Highly recommend this book for beginners or experts.

Great fondue book or BEST fondue book?
Seriously, this thing is great.Pro's:- Covers the classic recipes(Swiss fondue, basic chocolate recipes)- Covers simple alternative recipes to the classics. By this I mean Cheddar Cheese fondue, Chocolate Cheesecake fondue, and so on- Covers some really, really interesting recipes you wouldn't think of. I won't spoil them here, but there are some "heh, I wouldn't have ever thought of that" recipes.Con:- It's sort of small, would love this writer to make a larger bookAll in all, worth the money, if only for the chocolate cheesecake fondue recipe. If for a gift, great buy. If for yourself, invest in larger pants or workout videos. :-)

Certainly Great Fondues
I purchased this book along with my Swissmar Montblanc Fondue Set. I LOVE the recipes in here! I love the fact that there are plenty of recipes that aren't so typical but a twist on the ordinary. This was my first fondue dinner at home and I am certainly not a great cook. We did a 3 course fondue dinner:Cheese - Jalapeno Jack FiestaMeat - Classic BeefChocolate - Toblerone Swiss ChocolateFor a beginner, like myself, the recipes above are easy to follow and don't require too much culinary effort but still come out with restaurant quality. I cannot wait to try out more recipes in the near future!
