A great beginners guide
I enjoy lots of fiber arts and so naturally, I was drawn to this book because macrame seems like my next craft. The writer has lovely step by step photography and instructions in the beginning of the book to showcase all the knots and techniques used in the included projects. The variety of projects including jewelry, coasters, wall decor and plant hangers, was vast, as I didn't know so many items could be made with macrame. The instructions are clear and the step by step photos make it easy to double check your work to make sure you are on the right track.I really enjoyed this book and look forward to my first macrame project.

Beautiful possibilities!
Beautiful colors & patterns… I wouldn’t say it’s meant for beginners. There are tutorials in the front of the book & the step by step patterns refer you back to the knot tutorials at the front of the book. I would recommend this for those who are better acquainted with macrame & are able to continue the patterns without having to flip back & forth. But, the items are visually stunning- absolutely gorgeous macrame cord & top notch pictures that showcase the items to entice a novice macrame enthusiast.

Charming "how to" guide for one of my favorite "vintage" crafts
I am charmed and a little amused by the whole midcentury boho design trend, which in my mind is simply the 70s-era kitch I grew up with. One of the "vintage" trends that's been revived as part of this boho movement is macrame--decor such as wall and plant hangers, jewelry and clothing items, etc. I loved doing macrame as a tween. I remember making owl-shaped plant hangers for every member of my family for Christmas one year, and I made lots of macrame chokers that I enjoyed wearing and trying to sell (not very successfully, however; there was no Etsy or Amazon in those days).Casey Alberti's Sweet Home Macrame Beginner's Guide evokes a sense of nostalgia for me and delights with her instruction and designs. Probably the only thing that's different from what I remember from my macrame days is that she uses cord instead of jute--which is probably a lot cleaner (jute sheds) and easier on the hands. You will find a lot of classic patterns here (like wall hangings and plant hangers) and some pretty tongue-in-cheek ones (like the disco ball holder, which cracked me up!) Even a lot of the colors she uses are 70s vintage, like green, gold, orange, and brown (we called them "earth tones" back in the day). Some of the patterns I am interested in trying include a lampshade (really cool!) and coasters. The book is well organized and illustrated. It starts with a tutorial of the basic knots that you will use, with step-by-step instructions illustrated with clear photos demonstrating the process. Each design includes a list of needed tools and materials, plus the knots you will use--which is great, because you can practice your knot skills before you commit to a project. The design instructions are clearly set out step by step, again with photos to illustrate. Seriously, the instructions are so clear that you would be hard-pressed to mess them up. This guide is truly fit for a beginner, but seasoned macramers are likely to find value in it, too.If you are interested in learning this old/new craft, or you are into boho chic (lik decorating your place floor to ceiling with potted plants and vintage rattan), you will love this book. It even includes a design for dangly earrings (but no choker designs, LOL). It would also make a good gift for a crafter, or even a Boomer/former hippie who is likely to get a kick out of the book like I have. You could even curate a gift basket with the book, some skeins of cord and rope and basic supplies--and even tab a design the gift recipient might enjoy making.Seriously, I am charmed by this book, not only because it takes me back 50 years, but also because it is so well done. I might even be inspired to return to my boho roots, hang a few hooks on my ceiling, make some plant hangers, and get some ivies, air plants, and spider plants to display. Recommended!

Great beginner macrame book!
Wow, this is a beautiful book. Coffee table worthy. Has step-by-step instructions, a picture for each step. The beginning of the book explains different supplies and the types of cord that you may need. The second section explains how to do common knots that are used throughout the book. The third section has 12 projects, all again with step-by-step visual instructions. Projects include wall hangings, accessories, plant hangers, earrings, coasters, and more.
