VB-MAPP: Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program, Protocol Paperback

I bought this while I was in grad school and I still have it (it's been a few years). I love that it isn't a cheap material and its durable.

Best assessment tool for 0-4 years old

My son's school uses VB-MAPP for his program, and it's a wonderful Guide, so I'm getting my own personal copy. Amazon.com's vendor 'Special Needs Project' is advertising new for 54.95 plus 3.99 shipping, but I couldn't tell if it was the August 2011 printing. I like to shop at Amazon.com to get my credit card points, but I think I'll play it safe, plus save a few dollars, and get it straight from the publisher.

Got what I ordered this time

Overall excellent book and well-written! Emphasizes the needs for both Discrete Trials and Natural Environment Training/Incidental Teaching/Pivotal Response Treatment, and the pros and cons of using each. However, it should state for those who don't respond to echoic, mand, or tact training alone in Discrete Trials to collaborate with a speech pathologist on incorporating an oral motor/tactile prompt (i.e., manually molding the lips to say "muh," placing the child's top teeth over the lower lip to say "fuh," having the child blow (or feel the pressure of the breath) to say "puh" or "huh," providing a touch cue to the child's cheeks to say "juh," or placing a lollipop under the tongue to say "lah") to elicit the verbal operants.For that reason, their should be an "Oral Motor Imitation (if needed)" category on these Verbal Behavior assessments, and hopefully that could be addressed and added in the next edition of this training manual, as oral motor prompts are highly behavior analytic and was largely part of Lovaas therapy.
