The 2012 tournament was the 14th European Championship for national football teams and the final tournament was jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine in June/July 2012. Fifty-one nations entered the tournament and the final tournament featured sixteen National teams, including the two host Nations. Each coin features a footballing skill with a landmark from each of the host cities in the background: • The first of the four coins depicts a player heading a football and in the background are images of the statue of the Sitting Statue of Liberty in Lviv and Neptune's Fountain in Gdansk. • The next coin features a player passing the ball and in the background are images of the Motherland Statue in Kiev and King Sigismund's statue in Warsaw • The third coin shows a footballer shooting, with background images of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration of Jesus in Donetsk and the Raclawice Panorama in Wroclaw. • The final coin depicts two footballers tackling and in the background you can see images of the Cathedral of Annunciation in Kharkiv and the Cathedral in Poznan. All of the coins feature a magnificent double Effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee year which shows a portrait of Her Majesty as she appears on current coins alongside a portrait based on how she appeared on the coins that were first issued in 1953.
