2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY: CLASSIC FILM SOUNDTRACK!
Classic film soundtrack. It can be considered a classic and must go down as one of the greatest film soundtracks of the 20th century. It has haunting themes through its 'Requiem' track that echo the sheer isolation of space. It uses classical music such as 'Thus Spake Zarathustra', 'The Blue Danube' and 'The Gayanne Ballet Suite'. The first echoes the triumph of the space race, the second, the jovial nature of the space stations floating through space and the third, a more soothing view of human existence. It uses dialogue from the film with a detailed interview about the robot HAL 9000. The music is the film soundtrack to the film '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

2001: A Space Odyssey: A soundtrack that is out of this world!
Having seen the film recently here in London at The Science Museum's Imax Theatre in an 'unrestored' print, I was interested in getting hold of the Original Soundtrack Album having listened to the music during the film. My favourite is still Johann Strauss's Blue Danube Waltz which was just awesome seeing it on such a large screen. The rest of the CD has some great pieces of music including Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra and additional tracks along with HAL's dialogue from the film.. An essential purchase!

Welcome to Planet Earth, Area 51 arrival zone
The soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey is an iconic example of how music is used to evoke emotion in the cinema. If you cannot recognise the lead pieces you will be identified as an alien, incarcerated and tests performed upon you. This album provides good reproduction of the original score and is worth listening to.We hope you enjoy your stay and do not bring mass carnage and genocide.

2001:a space odyssey
This is the edition to have. Everything as it should be regarding presentation and recording with a few extras thrown in. I must agree with the other reviewer in that this music is best heard along with the visual element although my reason for buying this was that it's simply the cheapest option to acquire the pieces by Ligeti and Kachaturian, a one-stop-shop if you will.

2001: A Space Odyssey of classic music
When you see the film, you miss the soundtrack apart from someof more evocate scenes. The choice of music is right for the film. And has become so synonymous with the film.

Kubrik’s great instinct for music choices
Kubriks use of music for the soundtrack of this film shows’ as is usual with him, great instinct for what works in a certain context. Also great knowledge and interest in music. It introduced Ligeti to me for which I am very grateful. There are welcome bonus tracks on this cd.

Brilliant Soundtrack to an exceptional film
I have the original version of the soundtrack on vinyl, but this is suffering the effects of time. This version is outstanding. The additional tracks and the booklet, give more insight in to this amazing film. If you love the film, get this soundtrack. I play it load for full effect. Highly recommended.

Love both the film and the music.
This is the original soundtrack with a few very nice extras, especially liked the cameo from Hal at the end
