Great sandal for the money- not a true "hiking sandal" though.
These are great. I wasn't sure about which size to get- I am a 9, typically, but depending on shoe, it can differ. Sometimes I go 9.5, but that's either in running shoes or some dress shoes. The 8.5/9 fit me perfectly. As far as adjustability, the strap behind the heel is what is adjustable. It connects to the straps that cross over the top of the foot, on either side. You can slide the heel strap up or down (or forward or back, depending on how you look at it), and it makes for a more snug or loose fit. My guess about people saying the straps get loose over time, *may* have something to do with this feature being a little more mobile after some wear. But, it could also be that the braids tighten up, making the straps be just a tiny bit longer than at purchase. Either way, for now they are great and I think for the price point (these aren't Chacos, after all) the quality is good and even if they stretch a bit, I would be glad I bought them. They are incredibly light, and the support is good- it's firm, without being stiff in the sole, or hard on the bottom of the feet. It's also not annoyingly squishy, which can feel kinda gross to my feet, especially if the shoe gets wet. In fact, I suppose they're so comfortable that the only way I think about my feet is to stop to consider how good they are feeling from time to time. The bottom of the soles are not what I could consider "hiking" sandals. They have texture for sure, but it is more like a light but dense foam/ (plastic?) I will feel ok wearing these in drier, slightly rough terrain, but I personally would not feel comfortable relying on them on wet or potentially slippery hikes.. however I've seen some reviews here that say they use them for that and with no issues. I suppose if they prove themselves trustworthy, then after some time I might give them a go at wetter conditions. They are quiet shoes, with the exception of the light sound of my heel lifting off of the back of the sole. I don't know that that is avoidable, but the shoes themselves don't make a lot of noise on the ground- indoor or outdoor.Overall, I would definitely recommend them. I will be using them for travel - to have a utilitarian sandal that can also be dressed up. Then just around town in my regular life when I return. If anything significant comes up after using them for sometime, I will edit this post.

BUY THEM!
I normally do not write reviews but I have to write about these sandals.I wasn't too sure because when I received them it didn't seem like there was much of arch support, and I have high arches, a small bunion and plantar fasciitis(extremelyfussy feet!!), but I figure I would give it a shot. I work at a large high school and I do a lot of walking all day long. One morning I threw them on but also put my comfortable shoes in a bag. I did not have to change into my shoes at all on the first day of wearing them! For me there was no break in time at all !!!!! I have gone walking for an hour with a friend 3 times so far and they are more comfortable than the sneakers that I have! I will be buying another pair or two or maybe even more!!!!!!! These sandals are so comfortable!

Comfortable!
I love these sandals! They are super comfortable!!! I have flat feet and plantar fasciitis, I wear arch supports in most of my shoes. That is not so easy with sandals so I was looking for sandals with arch supports and are comfortable for walking but still look good. These have some arch support, but not too much. If you have high arches they might not be enough. The sole has some cushion to it, but not too much. I walked a lot in them right from the beginning with no discomfort. I bought a second pair. They are true to size. I just wish they came in a 5.5 size. That is my true size but I had to order a 6, so they are a little big but I still love them.

Pretty, inexpensive.
Not bad for the price! Pretty, darn comfortable and very light-weight. Actually, the light-weight is why I only gave 4 stars. Even though they call this a “hiking” style, I won’t be surprised if the braided straps pull out of the foamy-plastic sole before this summer is over. Not certain the straps go all the way through ( like other more expensive brands - you know who I’m talking about). I do not plan to go hiking in these, just casual around town & walking.

Water park approved
I wore these to Typhoon Lagoon water park in FL. They were comfortable for the 7 hours I was there, walking on the pavement and in the water. There was no rubbing or slipping on my feet, including when in the wave pool and the lazy river. I wear a 5.5 and went with the 5.5-6. I’m also athletic built (size 2), with mildly flat feet, and my feet felt fine in these. At first, I was concerned they might be too loose, but they were great as a more flattering “aqua sock.”

Plaka sandals are wonderful !
I purchased these hiking/walking sandals for my sister. They were delivered the next day and surprised both her and I. She loves them. They are exactly the color shown and are beautiful. They fit perfect, with a great arch support. The soles are thicker than a pair of flat sandals. They have a tread so they are not slippery while walking, they are beautiful and my sister loves them.
