An excellent comprehensive guide to marketing your bar or restaurant
I'm fascinated with restaurants and the restaurant industry so I picked up this book after reading an article by Susanne in Restaurant magazine. It was so much more than I expected.I think I was expecting a survey of modern marketing tools such as email newsletters, social media and review sites. This is all there but it is put into a meaningful context by starting off with the solid foundation of how to develop a marketing plan. (A lot of books talk about the mechanics of social media marketing, etc, without recognising that you need to think about what you're trying to achieve first.) There is also an excellent chapter on the elements of a visit to your restaurant that will attract customers (or otherwise), covering things like your restaurant exterior and interior, meeting and greeting and service. There is a focus throughout on putting the ideas into practice with useful checklists and discussions of how to involve your team in your marketing and which elements of the work might be suitably outsourced. A final chapter focuses on putting the strategy to work with a good discussion of some useful project management tactics. The book flows well and is easy to read but don't let this fool you into thinking it's 'light'! There's a lot of work in there and it will definitely stand a few re-reads as you develop your marketing and your tribe.

Decent, although could have done with a section on the pros/cons of 'paid for' facilities on Facebook

Excellent, a mine of information.
This book is excellent. Whilst being concise and straightforward it is a pleasure to read and a mine of information.I should strongly recommend it if you want to understand today's catering industry or if you are a restaurant or bar owner who wants to be pro-active in harnessing the new marketing opportunities offered by social media.I would not be surprised if this book was to become a reference book for marketing students.

Need a major update
This book is obsolete. It is a 2013 dared. Either should be revised and updated or removed from Amazon. It is for startups. Disappointing.

Great book that focuses on the way of thinking when marketing for a restaurant. Sadly, the Platform at London Bridge is quite an unfortunate example as I believe eventually it went bust :/. Nonetheless, it is a useful book to read for anyone workign in restaurant business.
