We all remember the battery powered toy dogs from the 80s/90s that were all the rage one chirstmas. Well it appears they are back with a vengeance as there are a whole slew of models on the market this year. Prices range from around £15 upwards and this one is a bit further up the scale at £31,99 as I write this.It could be argued that this model is worth the extra as it does come with a whole bunch of accessories to dress up and play with the toy including a 'bowl', 'dog toy', 'string ball' as well as a 'scarf', 'sun-glasses' and a lead that doubles as a simple wired remote control.In terms of functionality you get all the normal things animated toy dogs of this type do, it walks, it barks, and it wags its tail. However where it has extra features is in terms of control. Where the cheapest simply turn on and run until you turn them off, this dog is either controlled by a simple wired remote control that doubles as the dogs lead. This plugs into a socket on the back of the dog and has a handle which is 'paw' shaped with buttons that start the dog off.Alternatively though you can instead get the dog to start its tricks using sound, a clap is typically a good method or by simply patting the dog on its head lightly. When set of in this way it will run for a short period and then will enter a standby mode until started again, hence saving battery power. On the battery front this toy dog takes 3 x AA batteries (not included) which go into a small compartment on the dogs belly, this is held in by a screw to make it child safe. There is also a main power switch here, this is used to turn it fully off rather than letting it fall into standby mode, this will naturally make the batteries last even longer.As for value, this I leave up to you to decide, while it is more expensive than some it does have the extra accessories as well as the alternative control functions which do score in its favour.

On my opinion it is a bit too expensive for how it looks.

Battery life lasts long and it’s good for my kid

Bought this for my grandson.

Unfortunately this broke on Christmas Day after only a couple of hours. We requested a replacement which also broke immediately. It’s a shame because the dog is lovely and the one we’ve bought now isn’t nearly as nice. But I can see similar reviews from over Christmas so think there might be a dodgy batch.

Great toy but the spring in the battery was bent and faulty so it doesn’t work after only 1 play time. This was very disappointing on Christmas Day for my 6 year old daughter.I have requested a replacement
