These waterers come in glass or plastic versions. The glass ones are prettier, but the plastic ones are lighter so I recommend getting the plastic ones for smaller plants so as not to make the pots top-heavy and liable to tip over.DO follow the instructions and soak the wicks in water for one full hour before the first use. The reviewers here saying "the water all drained out too fast" did not do this. Once it's been done, you don't need to do it again unless the soil becomes very dry.When properly used, it takes 4-5 days for the water to all soak into the plant. This is less time than it takes for those plant-nannies that use empty plastic soda bottles, but they sure do look a lot nicer, so it's worth the extra effort! For very large plants in pots over 10" diameter, I would recommend the plant-nannies that use wine bottles, as these look nice and last longer, but are far too top-heavy for smaller plants.

I was skeptical. Bought glass watering bulbs a long time ago that just had the glass tube and it never worked; dirt would clog up the tube and water would stay in. I have been using this for 2 weeks now and it works perfectly. The tip disburses water and there is nothing to clog. The water flow is even, I have a large pot so a refill lasts about 4 days. No guesswork; when it is empty I refill it. This is not just for vacations, it is my permanent watering solution. It looks nice in the pot as well. Great product!

Water is dumped immediately. I think the issue is not the balls but the stakes. They have some sort of flimsy plastic at the end.I am ordering ceramic stakes to see if these balls with work with them.The glass balls are pretty but pretty does not keep plants alive.

I followed the directions but these dumped out the water immediately. One of them had a stripped thread on the plastic part and it wouldn't thread properly. I applied some plumbers tape to help with the thread issue to stop THAT leak and it still dumped all the water almost immediately. Don't bother!

I ordered four of these and two work like a charm and two well one doesn't screw on at all imagine a stripped screw and the other the water just pours from it. They are super pretty but I'd rather have something that works as opposed to just pretty.

unfortunately the water releases immediately once inserted into soil. I would have returned these but i had already thrown out all of the packaging. would note purchase again.

One of the balls will not screw on to the plastic tube and is therefore useless. They are pretty though.
