Q: What country is this manufactured in?

Don't know for sure, but I suspect China. I do not recommend these though. The barely lasted me two months. They break very easily. All of these holders will break if you make the floss too tight, but these break far more easily that the other brand. I recommend this brand sold by Amazon - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LZXJR53/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. These are larger and more durable. I keep these everywhere like my desk, my car, next to my recliner, and because they are so handy and easy to use, I floss my teeth all the time.

Q: Does Glide type floss (slippery) lose tension requiring restringing around wheel?

Probably. I've been using these devices for over ten years, and up until I devised a way of stringing the floss onto the holder, it would lose tension. I wrap the floss three times around the post, string across the tines, wrap it around the post, once, go under the handle, come up the other side, then, swaddle it around the post in the opposite direction three times. It sounds like a waste of floss, but that's what works for me.

Q: What type of plastic is used in the Y shaped handles?

I'm not a chemist so I couldn't really say. My experience with this product suggests it is inferior, maybe recycled plastic, to another brand that is more acrylic. I got maybe five uses out of it before it broke while pinching the tines together to install a new string of floss.
