This dongle is perfect for accessing a 5 GHz WiFi band for use with an older laptop or even a desktop. It has a wider range than the old card in my 6 year old HP laptop. It is great for upgrading an old laptop to get better WiFi access. I am using it by first installing the disk using the specified Windows 10 drivers off of the disk (without plugging in the device) and then restarting my computer once it prompted me to. I then rebooted my computer and then plugged it in and voila! it worked. It installs a Realtek icon to your desktop which you can click, or even a icon in your notification bar (for me its red wireless bars icon when disconnected, and turns green when connected). The app looks complicated, but to connect it is quite easy. There are other tabs for more advanced customization, however to just get connected is quite simple. You just need to click the Available Networks tab, find the network you want, and double click and type in security code if there is one, and you are connected! It keeps a stable connection so far, and I hoping it continues to do so! So far, this is just the product i needed.

This little dongle blew me away. I don't know the brand and wasn't expecting much for the price or based on its appearance, but it works fantastically. I use it on my desktop and I get a way better signal than my laptop's (a year old) built-in factory receiver. The included software is actually very useful too.Just to put things in perspective, my desktop is on the second floor on the other side of a large house from my router on the first floor with metal pipes and A/C in between. I get a fantastic signal and am able to play online games like Rocket League and Chivalry with no apparent lag compared to if I used my laptop on the first floor in line of sight with the router.Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised. After ordering this, I thought I would have to turn around and pay more for what I wanted, but I don't think I'll ever have to buy another receiver again!Note: Picks up 5GHz great and the antennae angle/orientation makes a world of difference!

P.O.S.1. Would not upload the driver at first from the CD. Put it away for a few years (absent a decent way to recycle electronics I just procrastinate on trashing them). Tried again. Success!! (golf course applause from the 70s)2. Worked BEAUTIFULLY for approximately 2 weeks, bringing the signal down twisted stairs from the main floor router/modem setup.3. No longer recognized. Reloaded driver. No longer recognized. Blue light is a thing of the past.I am now depending on my Amazon Shopper Colleagues' reviews to find my next P.O.S. Thank you!

I put in the mini cd for the driver install and something came up indicating photograph importing, "What in the world does a driver have to do with photographs or vice versa, then there are no further instructions on how to download the driver for this device so I said back you go to Amazon, some pc's already have the driver for this device but not mine and if the manufacturer takes for granted not to leave further instructions so be it, it is their loss.

I bought two of these 9 months ago. They worked great in the beginning but has since degraded in performance. Today, one gets 0.9 Mbps download and the other around 13 Mbps (for reference, my laptop in the same location gets 50 Mbps).I'm giving it 2 stars though because it was so cheap when I bought it. In hindsight, I think it would have been better to spend $20-30 more to buy one that'll last.

This device is Plug and Play while most other wireless devices require some knowledge of your computer systems setup software, this not one of them, just plug it in your Desktop or Laptop and your system sees it right away...Bought (2) both are working fine...

I bought a refurbished computer that did not have wi-fi installed. This little gem just plugged into the phone slot in back of my computer. The software that's included found the plug in and then all I had to do was enter my Wi-Fi password. It took all of 5 minutes.

Good for a cheaper adapter. Been using it for a few weeks and like it. I believed it showed up as a realtek chip (nice). Was able to stream 1080p with it, from one end of my small/mid size house to the other. There are faster devices if you pay more.
