Q: Can the lights be aimed (by rotating each mounting "arm") or are their positions fixed?

both lights can be rotated and aimed in any direction. Up, down and side to side.

Q: does it really have a hum as one of the reviews said?

No. Mine is silent. I've been totally satisfied with mine since it does what it claims to do... comes on when the lights go out. If others hum, they are different than this model.

Q: What is the plug in voltage (120 or 240?) Is the 240 voltage plug in available?

Mine is 120 only. Did not see an option for 240. But we love ours. Power goes out and comes on and we have yet to run the battery down.

Q: Are these bright enough to adequately light a regular size living room, or are they more like a night light? How long do they last before recharging?

The SK636 can last up to 40 hours with ONE LIGHT on. It is more like a night light, but it is enough light to guide your way throughout power outage at night. Check out the SK638 if you want more light output.
