Lepai is only company I know that saw this niche market for USB; unit works good

Can't believe this is the ONLY...and I mean ONLY...unit I've found that plays a USB stick that has RCA output that can be played through a 'legacy' home stereo system. I can cram a whole 24 hours of music on a single USB stick [or more really]...seems to me such a significant advancement technology...but no one except Lepai saw that niche market demand for 'older' home stereo. Everything is geared toward cellphone, or wifi, or car stereo for USB usage now. My Yamaha receiver is 12 years old and going strong [but obviously, no USB input]. Anyway, this little unit, apparently designed for car dashboard use, but with an added RCA stereo output and ac power cord, fits the bill ok and at a reasonable price [didn't want to be forced to purchase an new receiver just to have usb input]. It's probably not a good match 'quality' wise for my home stereo, but only wanted continuous background music 'all day long' that is not critical listening. So, I'm appreciative to the Chinese company Lepai for putting this on the market. The unit works fine.update 4/25/2016: increased rating to 5 stars. This unit has worked fine, giving me music throughout house, all day long, for 6 months now. It does not get hot, keeps track of previous after shut down, and simply works [my application as I described before for legacy system].

Worked well(ish) for about two weeks. Then brok down.

If this device worked as advertised, it would be decent for the price point. However, there are a myriad of problems with this device. If you were like me, and willing to shell out a little more for this Lepai because it came with a remote, be ready to be disappointed. The remote doesn't work unless it is pointed directly at the unit. Even still, it signal is weak, and needs multiple hard presses to get a click at it. Usually, I get frustrated and just change the volume manually... to me the remote is useless.Secondly, my particular unit randomly switches to radio mode. Very annoying when you're mid movie and suddenly your sound cuts over to the smooth sounds of blaring radio static. For this reason, I am actually returning it.It's made out of cheap plastic, and overall junkey, but that's expected at this point. Had the remote and unit itself worked, I would say it's great value, but it doesn't. As others have stated, the manual came in Chinese, but this is a common problem for electronics at this price point.

Not all bad.

The Lepai LP-S60 is in fact a modified car amp, that's exactly why it looks like one. If you read the box, the front of the system, and the remote it says it is a car audio system. The amp itself is a good value, considering a few things. If you run a speaker cord too close to the power cord you will get a hum (interference from the power cord, expected) and the power supply cord is very short, so whatever wall you plug this into don't think you'll be getting very far. This amp works best with 8 Ohm speakers, I have tried several speaker set with it so far and have found that with 8 ohms the speakers are nice and loud. At 6 ohm, the sounds is soft, and 4 ohms the sound isn't even there. So I didn't even test 2 ohms (even though it says it is stable with it.) The thing is, if you pump the volume up to 63 (max) on this amp it will get behind, and reset (very bad) so I wouldn't go above 60 as you max listening volume, although with 8 ohm speakers 55 is still very loud. The FM antenna thing, downside. Presets, etc. but I didn't buy this for that, and with an amp I didn't expect it to be good.Bottom line? It's not all bad, it works and if you don't back it up too much you won't have one or more of your channels burn out. Which means it's great for people who don't want loud music, like cheap stuff, or for starters in audio systems. I'd even say for a child's room thins would be fun.

not great, but okay and has a few problems

This cheaply made modified Chinese car stereo is decent for the price, not great, but okay and has a few problems. I own two of the $20 lepai lp-2020a+, they are better sounding amps and both work great, but have no remote, no tuner, no line-out, and only run two speakers. I moved a TV to my fireplace mantel and no longer had room for a full-sized amplifier. I replaced the slightly better sounding lepai lp-2020a+ with this Lepai LP-S60 because I wanted a remote control for the volume - the FM tuner is a nice extra - I have not used the SD card or USB reader. Mine is driving two Dayton Audio bookshelf speakers and sounds decent. It came with one sheet of English instructions. The remote is very cheaply made, flexes and works from about 6'. I plan to find a standard universal learning remote to to replace the factory remote with before it fails.DEFECT: My unit arrived with a defective power adapter. The power adapter cord would short and the unit power down with any movement of the connector. There was also a loud feedback hum over the speakers coming from the power unit. The included power adapter is 12V 5amp, and the unit will accept 12V < or = 5 AMP. My AC adapter from the old Lepai LP-S60 is 12V 2Amp it fits the new LP-S60 and drives my Dayton speakers with more then adequate sound. The closest similar small amplifier with a remote I could find was about $90, at $30 I think this unit was worth the price, but it is cheaply made and I think unlikely to be a long lasting solution.

Buyer Beware -- Quality Problems with my Unit

Unit worked fine for about a month. It will no longer turn on and off consistently. I would not recommend this design.

TV sound system on the cheap with remote..

I had bought the Lepai 2020+ for computer sound and was impressed enough to buy this amp for TV sound on the cheap. I bought a pair of Polk 30 series II speakers and this amp to boost the sound on a Samsung 55" TV. Sounds terrific and the remote works perfectly from across the room. TV sounds great, games sound great, and music through the aux port from ipods and phones work great. No hums, buzzes or hisses at any time. I cant fault this unit for anything but the price, it was $30 cheaper elsewhere, but they were out of stock until Dec and I didn't want to wait. FM works fine but is cumbersome to set up the presets. The manual is all Chinese so trail n error to figure everything out is part of the charm.
