This voltage line tester is a fantastic value for the money! With my coupon it was somewhere between $8 and $9. The integrated flashlight is very helpful in clearly seeing the electrical leads that you want to test. The only Improvement I can think of in the product is increasing the readability of the instructions. They must have been printed in Type 4 or type 3 font and are nearly impossible to read using the naked eye instead you'll need a magnifying glass or you'll have to take a picture of the instructions with your phone and then zoom in to the image on your phone.

Received and tested it today and it is very functional. You can adjust the sensitivity to not get any false positive alerts such as on the neutral wire. It can be adjusted to be very sensitive to alert you that there is a live wire in close proximity if you prefer. Everything is as described. My only complaint is that the instruction sheet is super tiny print or .026 (26/1000) tall and I could only read it using a magnifying glass. Trying to squeeze 8 languages on a single piece of paper.

This was on sale, & it was less than $10.00 which is a GREAT Price especially if you’re only using it once or twice. I tested this out in the house before I used it outside to fix some Christmas Lights. It easily picked up the 120v outlet, & by adjusting the sensitivity to a 3-4 I was able to test for hot wires through their insulation which was also very accurate. I do like the fact that it’s practically the size of a pen, & it has a tip on the end which fits into the outlet hot wire slot.If you need one of these for DIY, around the house projects? It’s awesome, but if I was on the job working as an electrician?? I would probably get one a little more sturdier & durable. Which is the only reason why it got 4 stars. If the casing was thicker, & better protected? It would’ve easily gotten 5 stars.Hope this helps-

I lost my fluke version of this. I am an industrial maintenance electrician. I like it better than the name brand and at this price, I can lose it again and it doesn't really matter.

This isn't the perfect product, but don't let this stop you from choosing this specific non-contact voltage detector.Like all such products (and there are MANY) it suffers from the same problems: at times too sensitive and at other times not sensitive enough. The reason is simple enough: these voltage detectors are based on the assumption that the person holding the detector in his hands is at ground potential (or close to it) and that doesn't always happen to be the case.Where this specific product stands out is that the sensitivity can be adjusted in 9 steps. This allows you to reduce the sensitivity in situations where there is so much energy in the area that the detector alerts even near non-conducting materials or at no object at all in mid-air. The multiple detection levels help to distinguish between weaker (possibly false positive) signals and stronger detection (likely to be an actual live circuit).I personally don't trust these voltage detectors to keep me safe when working on electrical circuit. The reason I bought this detector was for troubleshooting light strings and with its adjustable sensitivity and 3 level strength indication it does work reasonably well for that purpose (much, much better then voltage detectors that are not adjustable and only have a single alert level). I would not recommend it as a safety tool for a job site as it does appear fragile (lightweight plastic). Thrown into a bag of heavy tools it would probably not last very long.The reason I'm giving it 5 stars is for the sensitivity adjustment and multi-level alerting. I tested those features and they work very well for my intended purpose.
