Bad Connection and incorrect depth if and only if it works..
Takes ages to connect to WIFI, it keeps showing bring FishHunter closer! Well it was 2 meters away from my phone...after restarting the app several times and disconnecting the WIFI then reconnected managed to login but to get a message saying water too deep or too shallow while the boat sonar was showing 21 meter! Then it got connected to show me a depth of 4 meters while I was on the 20 meter contour...Total waste of money and time...

TURN OFF YOUR CELL DATA
I bought this a few years ago for ice fishing and and using the map functions for shore fishing. It never would keep connection...and I gave up on it and thought it was a waste of money and useless.I was looking at replacing it with a Deeper and saw that one of their tips for a better connection was to turn off your cell data. I did that for the Fishhunter and it started working fine! It's definitely a useful tool for icefishing...haven't tried anything else. So, the bottom line for me is the product needs better support...and is getting old. They should look at updating the product since Deeper came out with Chirp. It hasn't changed in five years. So, that is why I gave it a lower score. If I were buying one today, I would look at Deeper....better support and more up to date tech. But, for anybody having issues with dropping connection, or it not connecting at all - TURN OFF YOUR CELL DATA. I think what happens is your phone is connected to the sonar via WIFI, with no internet. The phone starts looking for an internet connection and tries to use cell tower connection. So, there is a conflict there and it drops connection to the WIFI. Turn off your data and it doesn't look for another connection.

Works great for ice fishing
The sonar works great and is very easy to set up. I have only used it ice fishing and it makes jumping around from hole to hole very easy. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating is because you are only able to connect it to one device at a time, i would like to have it connected to at least 2 devices while fishing out of a boat so that someone in the front can see it and someone in the back of the boat can see it.I originally gave this product a 1 star because the first one I ordered came from the Amazon Warehouse deals claiming it was in like new condition with minor damage to the packaging. However when I received it there was no charger for the unit making it useless, no arm band that is supposed to be included, the packaging looked horrible and was broken and the sonar made a rattling noise when it was handled. I would not recommend buying anything from the Amazon Warehouse after I experienced that.

FishHunter 3D - worked as advertised
Received the FishHunter 3D quickly, found that the unit linked to my phone easily and consistently. Took it to a local lake which I know well and found the bathymetry data to be accurate as well as the bottom features very clear. Was a little suspect of the temperature reading however since this is a simple measurement, I may be wrong. Did get indicators of fish at various depths. I did catch fish using dry flys near the same areas that I had fish indications on the FishHunter. The fish indications and fish caught felt consistent. This unit is going to really improve my knowledge of areas I regularly fish but have only experience to make assumptions about the bathymetry. I am heading there as soon as the Season opener occurs.

FishHunter Directional 3D
I bought the FishHunter Pro for a fishing trip to Canada. I was unable to use it because there was no cell service, so I was unable to log into my fishhunter account. Therefore, unable to use what I bought specifically for the trip. That was a big negative on the unit. The next time I tried to use it, was in a small pond near my house. It was not as easy to use as I thought it would be, after reading the manual. The cast feature didn't work, as I thought it should. I didn't have much use for it for the rest of the summer. When winter came, I used it for ice fishing, which it worked very well for. My brother-in-law had a Vexlar, and we did a lot of comparing. The Vexlar was a little more sensitive to the fish below, but not by much. I will continue to play with the unit to see if I can figure out how to use it better.

The device itself is easy to use
I fish from my Kayak. I've been looking for a fish finder that will work with my kayak. The portable fish finder seems to have fit that need exactly. I sync the finder with my IPhone. I have a RAM Mount that holds my phone between my legs and out of the sunlight. I have a sit inside kayak. I use a wooden dowel and drape the fish finder off to the side of my kayak toward my right front. I'm right handed and tend to cast to my left and bring my fish in from the left side of the kayak. I quit towing the fish finder behind me because it would lose its signal, and if I'm dragging my catch behind me they tangle. The device itself is easy to use, and does locate fish. The directional piece may be more of a novelty for me. I tend to fish for bass in shallow water, and I only need to know I have fish in the water. Solid piece of equipment, and I didn't bat an eye atthe cost, but my wife did. The only shortcoming I see is the lack of support/how to videos. Other than that, this gadget finds the fish.

Love this thing.
Nice little device, good for ice fishing but not perfect. It may pick up someone else's sonar signal if they are nearby.
