An Introduction to Literature, Criticism and Theory Paperback – 28 May 2009

I just finished my first year at university on an English Literature course and because of Bennett and Royle's book I not only got to understand complex theories made understandable, but the breath of the content allowed me to open up my own ideas and arguments within my work.This book both allows you to understand and apply theory and helps you become a critic yourself, creating an individual and origin response.Thoroughly recommended.

I used this book as an introduction to literary theory at university. It's easy to read and my copy was frequently used. As with any book of this nature, don't take it as gospel, but it is a great introduction to theory.

It's very factual and offers relevant information.I had to buy it for a class and was a little worried that I wouldn't use it as much as I hoped, and that it would be a waste of money, but I was wrong. Some of the chapters were a little technical and needed breaking down to get to the real information, but on the whole it was very relevant, and helped expand my somewhat basic knowledge on literary theory.

Came exactly as I expected, good quality for the price!!

In the world of literary theory this book stands out. It gives you concept of every theoretical aspect differently. It debunks the conventional approach and introduces every chapter in a completely different manner. Brilliant book. I love this book very much. Thank you amazon.

For anyone majoring in English, or who has a vested interest in literature, this book is an excellent choice. It inspires critical thinking by providing complex examples. This is NOT a one-dimensional or boring textbook! If you're looking for a way to get more involved in literature, but aren't interested in reading a boring, run of the mill textbook, I highly suggest Bennett & Royle's book. Watch out though, because it will definitely wrinkle your brain.

I am glad I bought this book cheaper on Amazon over the school bookstore; however, I barely used this book as well. I dunno what college professors think. Books aren't cheap and neither is college.
