Exploring Wild Alabama: A Guide to the State's Publicly Accessible Natural Areas

I got this as a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it. He is an avid hiker and has found so many new places to explore thanks to this book.

So much information. I grew up in Alabama and there is so much I didn't know about my home state. Great for traveling.

Wills and Davenport have compiled an excellent guide to areas of Alabama for the naturalist, tourist, sightseer, vacationer, or just plain vagabond. Concise descriptions and detailed directions are sure to please even the most savvy outdoorsperson in their pursuit of Alabama's wonderful natural treasures. A must have for travelers, hikers, and canoeists!

There are not many travel guides available for Alabama. Its best known travel destination is the Gulf Shores beach area, but this book brings to attention other state parks and natural areas that otherwise might not be as well known.This book is very good at identifying what types of scenery each state park and natural area contains. It gives good directions to locate the area. The book does spend a lot of time describing flora and fauna and geographical history for each area which was not of much interest to me for travel purposes. However, the book's description does make it clear it is ideal for naturalists and not intended to be a hiking guide. That being said, I do wish the authors would have at least mentioned trail lengths and difficulty levels for trails located in the parks and natural areas. When I found a waterfall or trail of interest in a park, I had to search the internet to determine if the trail length was feasible for a person interested in limited hiking.Overall, a very good and well researched book well needed to highlight Alabama's state parks and scenic areas. Nice colorful photos and good quality materials used for the book itself.

This book told me more about places I bin , and places I won’t to see, and how to get there!

I often drive through Alabama and want to take a walking explore or an interesting stay on my trip. This book is well written, organized and informative even near/in cities like Birmingham with it's Moss Rock Preserve!

A wonderfully brief and engaging description of Alabama’s natural getaways with just enough detailed information to inform and inspire an adventure of your own.

Excellent reference guide for outdoor Alabama! I personally know both authors who are very know Alabama well and the best places to go!
