It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other. Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their '70s prime, in the era of their Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs--a rare opportunity for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk.

Great sound and Glen Goins voice live is Amazing!
I had not listened to anything by Parliament in a while, possibly over a year. A friend posted a Funkadelic video on social media. I watched/listened to that song then went looking for others. Found Mothership Connection. As that played I heard Glen Goins voice and I thought, I remember that voice. Did some research and found out Goins died due to Hodgkins Disease roughly two years after this concert was filmed. Went looking for my Mothership Connection CD. Listened to that and then purchased this DVD. The sound is very good and I enjoyed watching the video. Heard some songs for the first time. Cosmic Slop has grown on me. The guitar solo by Michael Hampton is great. I was not aware of how many people sang for P-Funk until watching this concert. The only drawback I found with the DVD is between each song there is a black fade out. Music and stage sounds can be heard. I wish the events on the stage had been shown. Kick back and let P-Funk do it to you through your eye sockets as well as your ear holes.

Great show. I enjoyed watching it many times
Great show. I enjoyed watching it many times. Two minor things (very minor) (1) when each song ends, the picture will freeze at the last note. Not a flaw in the DVD, just something artsy the editor was trying. To me, it doesn't give the feel of a actual concert rather than live song, chapter 1, live song, chapter 2, etc. 2) Anyone that knows Parliament/Funkadelic knows that they are known for 3+ hour shows. This is 60 minutes, so a lot was left out. Like I said, 2 minor things. Still love the show. Maybe one day they will release the full, unedited version of that show.

WHAT IS EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT?!?
It was the 1970's! They didn't have all these "high tech" cameras/equipment like they do nowadays! Whatever camera was used, it was probably the only camera they COULD use to film that type of concert at the time, I don't know. But ANYWAY! What can I say, except WOW! I bought this DVD as a surprise for my father, and boy did it make his day! He not only experienced the "P-funk madness", but he also got to hang out with these guys. As an "old school baby" myself, it was quite enjoyable for me too. The concert was taken place at the Houston Summit on Halloween night in 1976. Parliament Funkadelic delivers nothing but greatness throughout this entire DVD. You got nothing but the best..from Dr. Funkenstein arriving in his Funkmobile and doing his thing to the biggest part of the entire concert. You guys know what I'm talking about! I felt INTENSE anticipation, and to think I wasn't even actually there! It was during the performance of "Swing Down Sweet Chariot" when the Mothership came flying in the air and landed center stage, and who should come out but the one and only funkmaster George Clinton himself dressed in what appears to be "pimp suit" attire. Of course these guys had a way of expressing themselves and their true talent. :) They had an actual BAND, playing LIVE instruments..NO lip singing here, folks! Pure entertainment, and these cats are the true definition of FUNK (P-FUNK that is). I sure hate I'll never get to experience anything like this, but I'm grateful to be able to purchase and see stuff like this on DVD. For you older P-FUNK fans, you will LOVE this! Don't worry about the quality - just think about what you get out of it, which is a hell of a stroll down memory lane!***And for those of you who want to complain, remember what Funkadelic's song says, "If you ain't gonna get it on, TAKE YOUR DEAD ASS HOME!!"

Make My Funk, The P-Funk
Not the best quality video, but if you are a true fan of "The P," it won't matter at all!!! Uncut funk from beginning to end. I saw the Mothership Connection Tour in 1977 at the LA Coliseum. I was 8 yrs old. It totally blew my young mind and I've been living "on the one" ever since!!! When Glen Goins called the mothership ship down, I remember the band being drowned out by people screaming. Some people had tears in their eyes. I still get chills on that part. This video is a must have! The greatest band(army) to ever play together, on their best tour...

Region 1 but Made in Mexico?
The item description says this is a Region 1 (US & Canada only) disc, but lightly printed on the packaging are the words "Made in Mexico", and the packaging looks a little bootlegged... I bought this as a Mother's Day gift, so hopefully it works on her disc player!

Jazz-like funk
Very good groove concert. Set to put you in the mindset that we're going on a spiritual funky journey. We'll praise the funk and Dr. Funkenstein so hard until he blesses us with the landing of the mothership and his presence. Brother Glenn Goins takes the reins at the instruction of George to sermonize the arrival of the mothership. Some times the songs may go on a bit long but removing that and it is a very good experience. Being that it is in the 70's the video and sound aren't top notch but once you get past that it is great to hear how space jazzy the funk can be.

This might be the greatest concert ever filmed.
This is IT! The real deal uncut Funk. Music is amazing. The stage show, the performers are just killer. The video quality is lacking. It does improve as the show progresses. But listen, LISTEN! it is all about the music. And this is it! THE BOMB the UNCUT Funk. The P-Funk.

Free your mind
If you're a Parliament-Funkadelic-George Clinton fan, this may be a dvd you'll enjoy. The picture quality is fair, the sound decent. In my efforts to find interesting material of these funky individuals I bought 1 expensive copy of a dvd a few years ago. I didn't know better. Now I found this disc on Amazon and - encouraged by the name "Bootsy Collins" mentioned in the review (he's only singing along in the last song, not playing the bass) - I decided to go along and get it. It turned out to be the same disc, just with a different cover. So: no complaints about the disc itself.....it's good. I just wish I would have been able to figure out beforehand that I already had this disc. The descriptions are not always clear and the list with songtitles is sometimes absent. Now I'm still searching for a Parliament/Funkadelic concert where Bootsy plays the bass.....

Man muss schon ein sehr großer Fan sein um über die wirklich schlechte Bildqualität hinweg zu sehen, auch der Ton lässt zu wünschen übrig.Dauer der Lieferung ist angesichts der Absenderadresse vertretbar.
