It's an easy setup, and it works just as it claims!

Simply put, this system does what it says it will. No problems, not complications, no misleading info. This is my first mesh system install and it really couldn't have gone smoother. My experience so far has been fantastic and I would recommend this system to anyone needing to fill in WiFi dead spots or just wants better coverage and easier control over their network. My environment:- Needed to replace an ASUS RT-AC87U AC2400 due to a dying antenna causing coverage issues.- 4 Story house with just over 1,000 feet per floor, 4000ish total sq feet.- Home office on 1st floor, media room on 4th floor, and 30ish ‘smart’ devices spread between them.- Shentel Cable service @ 150mbps.- ISP’s modem setup as a simple bridge, using the Rock Space mesh as a wireless gateway.- A variety of devices, including Xbox Ones, iPhones, iPads, Alexa & Dots, Ring products, Smart Thermostats, etc…What I can confirm from my install:- The app is really user friendly and packs a lot of features & options. I really like being able to configure/monitor/adjust my network from my Phone instead of having to connect a laptop to my gateway.- Total setup for 3 nodes took about 20 minutes, but most of that was me walking to different floors and waiting for them to auto-sync with the main gateway.- When setting up the first gateway node, it asked me if I wanted to use a different SSID than it's default (marked on bottom of nodes) so I named it the exact same as my old network and gave it the exact same password. The hope was that I wouldn't have to reconfigure 30ish smart devices and instead, they would reconnect automatically once the network was visible again. Surprisingly, this worked just as I had hoped!!! Once all of the nodes were connected and I restarted the network, everything in the house reconnected to the closest node. I had zero connectivity issues. None. I'm still kind of shocked that it worked so easily.- I placed one node by the ISP’s modem on the 2nd floor, one node in the basement, and the last one on the 3rd floor. These 3 nodes covered all 4 floors, from top to bottom with no dead spots.- It’s a dual band system with 3 separate nodes but still only shows as a single SSID. I no longer need to choose between the 2G and 5G, the mesh does that automatically depending on the which has the strongest signal.- I have 2G and 2G/5G devices and they all connected perfectly. I saw an "Assistant" option in the app to force it to 2G while connecting, but I didn't have to use it. The app shows you which node each device is connected to, and which band each device is using.- I'm using port forwarding within the app for 2 gaming systems and both are working as expected.- After a few days, I thought I'd add another node to the 4th floor just because it had the least coverage of the floors. Unfortunately though, I wasn't able to find individual nodes for sale anywhere so I had to buy an entire new 3 piece set. Adding another node was as simple as clicking "Add a node" in the app, then scanning the 2D barcode on the bottom of the new node. I ended up adding a 5th node so I could treat it as a direct cable point (as a switch), but I only did it because I had an ‘extra’…it really wasn't needed. My only complaint:- As far as I can tell, you can’t purchase single nodes anywhere. They only come in sets of 3. If you need/want to add another node, you’ll need to shell out big bucks again for a complete second system.I hope this helps someone out there that may be on the fence!

Easy, convenient & lightning fast speeds!

This set of 3 wireless mesh routers/access points are great. Wish I would have looked for them long ago. Our expensive 4 year old D-Link wireless router and matching access point had started dropping on a regular basis, so I started nosing around for something new and came across the Rock Space Mesh System on Amazon. I did a couple of hours of research and found other mesh systems to be prohibitively expensive, so decided it wouldn't hurt to try it with Prime's free delivery and returns. It was very easy to set up! Although changing the name and password for the SSID takes a bit of patience...best to get the full manual from their website. It's clear that English was not the first language of whomever wrote the quick start and manual, but you can still get through it.We've been using it for over a month and haven't had any further drops in service (I was about to call our ISP and spend a bunch of money replacing the lines, thank goodness I didn't.) What impressed me the most is the speed. I honestly didn't know it was possible to get such a high reading from speedtest.net...anywhere from 160-230 Mbps!! My old system was maxing out around 60 Mbps. I believe the speed is being affected by bandwidth. I started out at 230 Mbps with about 8 wired and wireless devices. I've since then gone nuts adding Echo's and wireless smart plugs to the house bringing us closer to 20 devices and the speed tests down to 160 Mbps. Couldn't care less...still much better than what we had and I notice nothing different in web browsing. My only word of caution...and I'm not sure if this is valid, is the security. It only offers WPA/WPA2 (TKIP). I saw a warning about this when doing my research, and indeed, our iPhones do list it as Weak Security. But the only thing I found so far that seemed half-way legitimate was a comment from an Apple representative saying this is considered weak security. But when other people posted on his comments and contested that this security is weak, he never replied (months old.) I just haven't had the time to research this further on WHY this mode is considered weak. So do with that what you will.Overall, we are thrilled with the product and love the full coverage we now have all over the house. Speaking of which, it is a 1940-built 2-story, 1,900 sq ft home with thick shiplap in all the walls/ceilings. We have the main unit downstairs in a central closet, and the 2 other upstairs on opposite sides near the exterior walls. No issues getting a great signal (wired or wireless) from anywhere in the home, and even in the yard (tried 50 ft away.) I also saw mention somewhere that using both wired ports on any unit does not work. That is not our experience. I have one of the 2nd upstairs units in my office. One LAN is plugged into my docking station, and one into my automation system. No issues whatsoever with connection or speed on either of those.Thank you Rock Space for a great product at a great price!
