Love This Outstanding External Hard Drive
This is written by a non-tech person but a very, very happy one.I had a LaCie external hard drive from several years ago. It was not as thick and certainly lighter in weight but it worked well and never faltered. Unfortunately, earlier this year my2017 MacBook Pro, which had been making threatening moves for quite a while, finally bit the dust. My tech guy came out to set up the new one and wanted to use the old LaCie to install the folders and documents. Alas, I had evidently put a password on it and despite knowing the "hint" could not figure out the password from the hint. Result: Couldn't get into it and eventually had to toss it in our tech dump.I was rather horrified at the price for this so I ended up buying one for about half the price. Mistake. So a few days ago, I got sufficiently annoyed to say "the heck with it" and bought this new LaCie.It arrived today, and at first I was astounded at the weight. But I immediately plugged it into my new MacBook Pro and it went right to work, soaking up all the documents and folders I have. I thought it would take it a couple of hours but within about 15 minutes (or less) it was completely done. I don't have photos or movies or music so that would account for some of the speed but I was thrilled to now have a solid back-up (with no password as it never leaves the house) of all my work. It works flawlessly and breathtakingly fast. I could not be happier. Is it worth the price? Absolutely, positively yes! Highly recommended. (I plan to buy a second one before the end of the year; it's that good.)

This is a excellent drive but does NOT support Thunderbolt as it alludes to. It's only USB-C
LaCie products are outstanding in almost every way. This one is no exception and it's build quality is excellent with a great HDD inside. However, it's description will make it seem that you can use Thunderbolt with this and you can not. I use a Mac and Windows so I know a lot of people mistake the C port as the same as Thunderbolt 3 or better but it is not the same. Thus your speed goes from 20 or 40Gbs down to 5Gbs. That's not to say USB-C is terrible. Test any drive on Black Magic Speed test and you'll know quickly. The overall size is also very nice. If you're using this for Time Machine Backups your download time will increase dramatically compared to Thunderbolt.

Does the job
I've used or owned several LaCie external drives and never had one fail. I hope this one is no exception.I purchased it as a Time Machine backup for my Macintosh. It's been holding hourly automatic backups of my Mac via a USB C cable for over a week without the slightest hiccup. It makes no noise, doesn't heat up, and does its job while hidden away at the back of my desk. Given my experience with other LaCie drives, I have high hopes for it lasting a long time (years). If it doesn't, I'll be back to complain about it.

Plug-And-Play on a Brand New 2019 MacBook Air
I bought this external Hard Drive for my mother, who is older & somewhat technologically challenged. She just bought a new MacBook Air & needed a new external HD to use with Time Machine. I had this hard drive sent to her house & shipping was prompt. My mom was able to just plug the HD into the USB 2.0-to-USB 3.0 (Thunderbolt 3) hub I got her, & then into her MacBook Air, & start using it. The hard drive works fine even with the daisy-chained cables. The look is sleek & matches the silver Macs too, which is nice if you care about that sort of thing. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase, providing it keeps working as intended.A few notes:My mother is careful with her stuff & therefore I did not see a need to spend the extra money on a Solid State Drive. This is a traditional Hard Disk Drive, so it spins. If you drop your hard drives, consider getting an SSD so you don't end up with a brick. They are more expensive, though.LaCie is the brand that Apple uses for their in-house sold external drives. As far as my mom could tell, the packaging was authentic & this was a purchase of a real LaCie product.

Drive is Slick, seems well made but USB-C connector has no Durability (2 yrs)
Its Been a Good 2 years since I bought this drive, it RAN exceptionally well but began to degrade. Since I do not unplug it, nor mis-handle it I assumed there would be no Issue but I was mistaken.I beleave the issue is in the usb-c mini-port that allows fast trasfers, nearly consistantly better than usb3.- full sized ports but I am mistaken, I've lost a lot of speed on this device when the usb connection went BAD!NOT the cable, but the SNUG connection to the drive itself, seems either the lenovo shunts too much heat threw the highest point of the desktop or the usb generates too much heat and the connector got warped!.Neverthe less the HARDWARE drive is probably still in excellent condition but I will have to drop its value below Seagate (which owns Lacie) due to the questionable mini-usbc connector, there is also a possibility that the unremovable POWER connector inside the external box was made of cheap metals.

Affordable redundant backup for Mac
This is the 3rd one of these I've bought. I use them as redundant backups for music and video production projects and photos. I use Mac and Lacie drives have always worked with that platform without having to reformat. I had a disaster with another drive that was a name brand, but cheaper, and needed reformatting. Went back to Lacie. The only issue with this one is that now the included cable is USB C on both ends, which won't connect to my older Mac without an adapter or a different cable. But if you also keep an old Mac chugging along you'll understand about that and probably have what's needed lying around, as I did.

This is my second one.
I love this one and it’s good for the money and a lot of room to save your files. The quality is great enough and the speed to transfer your files from the pc to the hard drive is easy to use.
