DuofoldMen's Heavyweight Double-Layer Thermal Shirt

If you need a second layer for colder days and nights I love this top. I buy a men’s top just for this purpose- it’s soft - sturdy - I buy them in all colors and larger than I need so it’s super comfy.

This Duofold "Varitherm" thermal top is heavier that their mid weight variants, also from Duo Fold, but are designed for thermal protection in even colder climates. The key to dressing for these settings is, our course, layering, and so one cannot expect to just pop these on, throw any old shirt over it, and then wear a lightweight coat and expect to stay warm when it is freezing outside. Having said that, this model offers superior thermal protection, and, when coupled with the thermal bottoms of the same blend, offer superb thermal characteristics. They are quite snug (but they are supposed to be), and they are a bit physically heavy, but they are exceptionally comfortable and do the job quite well. They aren't cheap, either. But when you are outside in the cold, the warmth they help provide, coupled with the smooth fabric weave make them a very good choice. And what everyone says is true: the sleeves are a bit on the short side, particularly if you have longer arms (so, in that sense, the product illustration here is not fully accurate), but it is nothing that should keep you from purchasing them. Other than the mid weight DuoFold models, they are my favorite thermals, and I've been using them for years. The latest model is better than ever. Five stars, in spite of the relatively high price, because of the quality and performance.

So far these are proving to be very warm.I use them in a layer system for winter walking. I've used them down to around 10 degrees. They kept me almost too warm.To me, they seem to run a little small so order a size up. I usually wear a medium and got a large. The anti stink works well!Quality seems good after 3 weeks of ownership.

Extremely form-fitting thermal shirt that provides a lot of warmth in a small, lightweight package.I bought this thermal shirt specifically because we were going to be hiking in the mountains in the spring, and temperatures could vary dramatically depending on time of day, orientation, and altitude. I tend to run hot, and wanted to keep my backpack light, as I was going to be carrying water bottles for my kids as well.While tight form-fitting apparel is not attractive on my doughy dad-bod, this shirt was just perfect for what I wanted. It weighs almost nothing, can be compressed into a very small area, but also provides significant warmth as an underlayer. I was able to wear it with a windbreaker and be completely comfortable. As I said, the material is very stretchy, and it tends to cling snugly to your body. Unless you buy a much larger size than you need, it is not going to hang loose like a cotton t-shirt.

I bought one for my boyfriend who spends a lot of time outside in the cold, and he loves it. He's tall and wears a men's size large and it fits perfectly. It's warm without being too heavy or constrictive, and it is so, so soft. He wears it while working in the yard, chopping wood, hiking, etc. It seems really durable and has held up well, but I'm tempted to order another just because it was such a good price.

I am an early morning bikerider with temps in the 40s when I ride in the Fall/Winter. I live in the foothills near Mt Baldy in Southern California. I am comparing this product to other name brand baselayers that cost 30 to 40% more! This keeps me at the right temp for workouts. It is my go to choice.

It's been several years since I last purchased the heavyweight shirts. I'm a return customer, so that should indicate my satisfaction with the product. I have to insert a big "however" though which is why I designated three stars. The quality of workmanship appears to be the same as when I last ordered, but there's a whopping big change in sizing. I ordered the large size as it seemed to fit well, but not anymore. The company elected to shave off at least 2¼" from the torso length. I compared it to my old heavyweights & the new ones are that much shorter in torso length. They're always washed in cold water & air dried, so shrinkage isn't a cause. This adjustment is unacceptable. It's apparent to me that the company is attempting to increase income by providing less material. Imagine the company savings extended over, say, 10 thousand shirts! The thermal quality is still present as is the sewing & hem finish. I've been such a fan of Duofold that I'll try an extra large size next time. If that doesn't amend the issue, then regretfully I'll need to change companies. Their packaging remains fine as is their shipping response time. Amazon, as always, provides excellent follow-through on each & every order — fantastic!

I am 5'9", 169 lbs, size medium. I really like this base layer. I have been using it for sleeping and as a base layer for work, running and bicycling when the weather is colder in California (13ºC to 22ºC). Here is why:Pros:* I like the shorter sleeves, I don't know why people are complaining about that. This shirt is supposed to be used as base layer, the shorter sleeves leaves my Garmin watch exposed, which is great, so I can see what is going on while exercising without have to pull up too many layers of sleeves. I also like the fact that I don't have to pull my sleeves up when I am washing my hands, going to the bathroom and so on.* It is long enough to cover my back while I am bicycling. I wore it while doing 25 miles training. 3 miles running after that.* Comfortable. It does not get soaked wet, like cotton.* Breaths well.* Relatively light weight.* I have tested it on 13ºC with just another thin long sleeves jacket on top and it was very comfortable while running 6 miles.Cons: After using and machine washing it a few times the fabric is pilling (see picture) and it does not look good , which is no big deal, since it is supposed to be under something.

This is so warm, I only need to wear a t shirt under and my jacket - sometimes it's even TOO hot in the winter. Best thermal I've owned.

It is good quality and warmer than I initially thought it would be. It didn't seem to be so heavy weight but as a base layer it is actually quite think and provides a lot of insulation. It is actually well thought out and designed.I will probably buy more of this company's products this winter
